MagneGas Corp.(NASDAQ: MNGA) announced that its subsidiary, Equipment Sales and Services, Inc. (ESSI) has signed a contract to open a sales and service outlet into North Central Florida.

A 50/50 joint venture was established with Suwannee Ironworks (“Suwannee”), an existing client. This allows for the distribution of MagneGas® in areas not currently serviced by the company, as well as opening up additional potential revenue opportunities from gas and welding supplies.


Melissa Kuznik recently joined Pharmaceutical Strategies Group as a Health Plans Consulting Practice Leader. PSG is headquartered in Plano, Texas; however, Kuznik, a University of Florida graduate, will be working remotely from Gainesville.

ZimmelDana N. Zimmel, D.V.M., an equine medicine specialist and the University of Florida Veterinary Hospitals’ chief of staff, has been named associate dean for clinical services and chief medical officer at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine.

TuliSonal S. Tuli, M.D., M.Ed., has been appointed chairman of the department of ophthalmology at the University of Florida College of Medicine.

Tuli will oversee a department that comprises 14 clinical faculty, 14 research faculty, 15 residents, six graduate students, three postdoctoral researchers and a support and administrative staff of approximately 100.

smithglennGlenn E. Smith, Ph.D., an internationally recognized neuropsychologist and dementia researcher, has been named the Elizabeth Faulk Professor and chair of the department of clinical and health psychology at the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions, part of UF Health.

Judge Stephamicklen P. Mickle was honored in a tree dedication ceremony at the University of Florida Levin College of Law on April 16.

In 1965, Mickle became the first African-American to graduate from the University of Florida, earning his BA in political science. In 1970, he became the second African-American to graduate from UF Law.

Carlos Holt has been appointed by the City of Gainesville to the position of Gainesville City Auditor effective Monday, April 13, 2015. Holt will assume duties as the city charter officer responsible for leading the City Auditor’s Office.

Holt’s previous experience includes his most recent tenure as the Internal Audit Manager for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee from 2008 until present. From 2004 to 2008, he served as a lead auditor/investigator for the Office of the Inspector General, Department of Defense/United States Navy in Charleston, South Carolina.

ICBA advocates for the nation’s Community banks and provides products and services to its member banks to enhance the communities which they serve.

DeHoffRhonda Cooper-DeHoff, Pharm.D., M.S., has received the American College of Cardiology’s 2015 Distinguished Associate Award — the first time this award has been given to a pharmacist.

Cooper-DeHoff is an associate professor in the department of pharmacotherapy and translational research in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, part of UF Health. She also holds a position in the division of cardiovascular medicine in the UF College of Medicine.

FreemanDavid Freeman, M.V.B., Ph.D., a professor in the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine’s department of large animal clinical sciences, has been named the Martha and Arthur Appleton Endowed Professor in Equine Studies.

A board-certified equine surgeon, Freeman serves as chief of the college’s large animal surgery service. He also directs UF’s Island Whirl Equine Colic Research Laboratory.

braddyGainesville Mayor Ed Braddy participated in the Third Americas Competitiveness Exchange on Innovation (ACE) from Sunday, April 19 to Friday, April 24. Sponsored by the Inter-American Competitiveness Network (RIAC) through the Organization of the American States and the United States government, the program invites key leaders and decision makers to experience firsthand successful projects and experiences in the Midwest U.S. States of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.

sakalElmarie Sakal, MBA, has joined Haven Hospice as the controller. Sakal has assumed the management role of the accounting department and accounting operations of the organization. She relocated from Denver, Colorado, where she held the position of controller at a major software company. In her previous position, Sakal developed accounting procedures and processes which increased efficiency and internal control.

corneilsonJohn Corneilson has joined Meridian Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. as the new Vice President of Finance and Accounting/ Comptroller. Corneilson joins Meridian following his position as Director at Luther Springs Camp and Retreat Center, in Hawthorne, Fla. Prior to that, Corneilson worked in industrial accounting for 22 years, and has served as the Controller of manufacturing facilities in numerous locations, such as Ocala, FL; Poplar Bluff, MO; Boone, IA; and Reynosa, in Mexico.

Interim Fire Chief Jeffrey J. Lane has been chosen to lead the Gainesville Fire Rescue Department, as its next Fire Chief. Chief Lane’s appointment to the position of Fire Chief is effective Monday, March 30, 2015.

Chief Lane has extensive experience in emergency services, becoming a certified firefighter in 1988 and joining Gainesville Fire Rescue in 1990. He is a certified Paramedic and Hazardous Materials Technician. Chief Lane has served at all levels of the organization, including Driver-Operator, Fire Lieutenant, District Chief, Assistant Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, and for the last four months, Interim Fire Chief.
