Local Cultural Custodian Sponsors National Exhibition: “Creativity Takes Courage”

Gainesville Fine Arts Association has announced a collaboration with CaFE’, a popular artist’s web site that details “calls for entry” or, opportunities to exhibit their works, in many formats, many venues, and often with awards to be had. This event, entitled “Creativity Takes Courage” is a juried art exhibition open to established, or emerging artists, 18 years of age, or older. Works in 2D and 3D are eligible and works exemplifying creativity and uniqueness are encouraged. There is a $35.00 Entrance Fee and the submission deadline is August 19, 2018.

Henri Matisse (1869-1954) is credited with the quote “Creativity Takes Courage” and many are the artists and those who appreciate art who have an understanding of this concept. Putting oneself “out there” for all to see, and critique, can be intimidating. However, with every deep breath taken, those who have the courage to share their art with the world will now have an opportunity to do so, on a national scale.

The exhibition jurors are Raul Villarreal, Cultural Programs Coordinator at Santa Fe College, Alexis Mendoza, New York Artist/Independent Curator/Author, and Amy Vigilante, Director of University Galleries at UF.

This exhibition, the first national exhibition sponsored by GFAA, will be shown at the Association gallery in the SoMa District of Gainesville at 1314 South Main Street, beginning September 25th and running through November 10th. In addition to collaborating with CaFE’, the Association has partnered with Santa Fe College Foundation, who will be awarding $2,500.00 in total cash, with $1000.00 awarded to the exhibitor judged to be the “Best in Show”; on the night of the exhibition’s opening reception, September 28th.

Matisse was also credited with saying, “I don’t paint things. I only paint the difference between things.” The Gainesville Fine Arts Association encourages everyone, young and old, to come and see the difference at this exhibition.
