Gainesville Breaks Ground on Police Property and Evidence Building
April 30, 2026

Gainesville city leaders and AJAX construction representatives officially broke ground April 24, 2026 at the site of the future police Property and Evidence Building on the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) campus. The three-story facility is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.
The 24,112 square-foot facility will be built to accommodate the growing volume of GPD property and evidence. When completed, it will support organized storage, efficient processing and easy retrieval of evidence critical to investigations and prosecutions.
In December 2025, the Gainesville City Commission approved funding for the $19 million project through a bank loan secured by the Streets, Stations & Strong Foundations (SSSF) Surtax Program.
