Fall in Love with Marketing in 2019

Running a business isn’t easy. Between juggling customers, staffing and deadlines, among other things, it’s often easy to overlook the need to revisit how you get the word out about your product or service to your community. The following communication trends rely on building relationships and strengthening ties with the consumer – things all of us could use to do more of. So… Let’s do it! Let’s fall in love with marketing in 2019.

Trusted content is king.
Nielson’s “Global Trust in Advertising” report from 2015 revealed that the number one most-trusted form of advertising was recommendations from friends and family, and this fact has not changed since then. So, what’s a business owner to do with this information? In a word, testimonials! Your best customers are often your best advertisers, and using their words to help promote your product or service – whether a five-star rating on social media or an anecdote in an ad – can be just the thing to lure in new business.

Get creative!
In our automated world, relying on digital marketing isn’t so bad – but it also may not capture the attention of consumers who’ve seen everything the computer can offer. Consider more inventive ideas like event sponsorship, postcards, snow globes… The only limit is your imagination! Taking time to brainstorm out-of-the-box ideas to market what you’re offering is also a great way to set yourself apart from the competition.

Learn how your customers communicate.
So, you’re ready to use the engaging words of your best customers, and have an imaginative plan to market your product or service. But a big wrench in the works may very well come from not doing enough research into how your clients interact with businesses like yours. Use your current client base to educate yourself on their communication preferences to ensure your marketing plan’s success.

Be authentic.
It costs nothing to be your true self. When deciding between calling a customer or sending an email to resolve an issue, choose the call whenever possible to put a personal touch on the help you’re offering. Getting to know the person behind the sale might just lead to more business in the future!
