Easton Newberry Sports Complex is an Official Olympic Training Facility

The Easton Newberry Sports Complex has been selected by the U.S. Olympic Committee as a Community Olympic Development Program.

Easton has waited three years of its five-year life for the designation and is one of only 10 facilities in the country to be awarded the prestigious honor for its ability to train both athletes and coaches.

Easton outreach director Doug Engh said that such designations recognize that many Olympians are raised and trained in their home towns, in facilities that cater to specific sports. Where the other facilities around the country cater to various other sports, the Newberry complex focuses on archery.

Engh said that it shows that Easton can raise kids up to a high performance level and send them on to USA Archery, the official US archery governing body that decides which competitors to send to the Olympics.

“Here we can provide a way to introduce kids to archery,” he said, “and provide a pipeline to the Olympics, if that’s what they want.”

 The unveiling of the new Olympic rings logo and rededication of the building will take place on Aug. 30, with over 100 expected to attend.

“The USOC is thrilled to announce Easton Newberry Sport Complex as its newest Community Olympic Development Program,” said Alicia McConnell, USOC director of training sites and community partnerships. “Easton Newberry’s commitment to athlete development and youth outreach is exactly what we look for when developing partnerships to enhance the Olympic and Paralympic movements.”
