United Way of North Central Florida names Deborah Bowie as President and CEO

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Dec. 17, 2014) — Deborah Bowie has been named president and CEO of United Way of North Central Florida.

The United Way board and staff members are extremely excited for Bowie to join the team. Dana Clayton, vice president of resource development, has been the interim president and CEO since August. Bowie’s official first day as president and CEO will be on Monday, January 5, 2015.

“United Way has a long tradition of service to our communities. Deborah Bowie is an experienced leader who is fully dedicated to furthering the United Way mission; using her extensive experience to lead our community in focusing on issues and building solutions through giving, advocating and volunteering,” said United Way Board Chair Kay Ayers. “United Way of North Central Florida’s Board of Directors looks forward to working with Deborah, helping us all to Live United throughout the years to come,” Ayers added.

Bowie joins the United Way team after spending nearly 2 years as the vice president of chamber development at the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce. “During her time on the Chamber team, Deborah has made many contributions, including building and leading a sales team that has exceeded goals for membership growth and revenue generation,” said Gainesville Area Chamber President/CEO Tim Giuliani. “Deborah’s collaborative leadership style has been an internal and external asset to the Chamber, and will serve United Way of North Central Florida well. I wish Deborah the very best in her new role and look forward to working together as opportunities arise to continue transforming Greater Gainesville.”

Bowie is a Miami native who spent the last 20 years in Alabama and Georgia, before returning to Florida in 2013. Her extensive past career experience includes strategic planning, marketing & communications, sales strategies, event management and leadership development. During her time with the Chamber, Bowie completely revamped the Leadership Gainesville program, increasing engagement and profitability overall.
