The Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) is redefining the role of affordable housing in Alachua County, moving beyond traditional residential management to serve as a primary catalyst for regional economic development. At the heart of this transformation is the ELITE Force Training Center, a high-impact workforce initiative that is actively bridging the gap between subsidized housing and sustainable, high-wage careers.

While regional attention has recently centered on the long-term revitalization of the East University Avenue corridor, the ELITE Force program is delivering immediate, “on-the-ground” results. By providing residents with specialized job training, professional certifications, and academic support, GHA is transforming the local housing landscape into a launching pad for the North Central Florida labor market.

“Our mission has evolved,” said Pam Davis, CEO of the Gainesville Housing Authority. “We aren’t just providing a place to live; we are providing the tools for our residents to outgrow the need for assistance. When our residents succeed—whether by making the Dean’s List or transitioning into homeownership—the entire Gainesville economy grows stronger.”

The ELITE Force Training Center focuses on three key pillars of impact:

• Academic Excellence: Direct support for residents pursuing higher education, resulting inDean’s List honorees and undergraduate, graduate school, and trade industry completions within GHA communities.
