SF Announces New Community Relations Director

Santa Fe College (SF) Vice President for Governmental and Community Relations John Hooker announced that Kari Hamende has joined the college as Director of Community Relations.

Hamende brings more than a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership, higher education, and healthcare fundraising. Most recently, she served as Interim Executive Director and Charitable Gifts Officer for the Hospice of Marion County Foundation, where she successfully launched a new 501(c)(3), led a $1.7 million capital campaign, and built strong partnerships with community leaders. Her career also includes roles with Loyola University Chicago, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Dominican University, and the School Sisters of St. Francis, where she developed deep expertise in strategic planning, board relations, event management, and stakeholder engagement.
“I am very happy to be here to help deepen relationships in our larger Alachua and Bradford communities across government, business, and nonprofit partners,” Hamende said. “After being at our SF educational centers and in municipal meetings during my first week on the job, it is clear that community engagement is a proud hallmark of the Santa Fe culture.”
In her new role, Hamende will lead Santa Fe College’s community relations initiatives and will serve as a key representative of SF, fostering relationships with local business and community leaders, government entities, civic groups, and educational partners. Hamende will also direct community-facing initiatives and related activity that enhance the College’s visibility and ensure SF remains responsive to the needs of its service district.
